Children Services
We assist children and youth, and their families, through support and advocacy, to learn skills to help them function at home and school, in community and in other group situations.  In addition to one-on-one support, we have several groups which meet weekly.  These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • ASDreams - for youth 12-17 with Asperger's
  • Girls Group - just girls 9-16
  • Youth Night - fun for all ages
  • League Bowling - Friday afterschool recreation
  • Saturday Morning Play Group - for children 3-7

Community Living
Individuals may choose to receive residential support through living with a family or a roommate.  CORE contracts with a support home or home proprietor to assist the indivdual to live in and access their community.  Home proprietors may be contracted to provide full time or short-term respite.  Respite can be provided on a scheduled or emegency basis.

CORE believes that a good match between the individual and the home proprietor is the most important factor in developing a stable and successful home.  Proprietors are expected to follow CORE policy and procedure in supporting individuals.  They are also expected to encourage and model an accepting and family atmosphere that allows individuals to experience personal growth, and allows them to feel that they are in their own home.

CORE manages seven residences throughout Medicine Hat that provide 24-hour support.  We also provide apartment training for those who wish to live on their own, but need support with some tasks.

Community Services
CORE provides a variety of services for individuals who wish to live and participate in their community.  This includes group and individual activities at our downtown centre, where we provide a day program, educational and recreational programs, employment support, access to community activities and food services training.

Individuals can spent an hour or several hours at the centre, attend an activity, or perhaps come for lunch in the cafeteria where they can get soup and a sandwich, a hot meal prepared in the kitchen, or simply visit with friends for a coffee break.

Step by Step Art Awareness allows individuals to explore varous art forms, interaction with local artists, and an opportunity to sell their artwork.
